Corridor Master Plans

The Jaeger Company assisted the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest of the US Department of Agriculture: Forest Service (USFS) in the development of Corridor Management Plans (CMP) for the Russell-Brasstown National Scenic Byway and the Ridge and Valley Scenic Byway. Since portions of these byways pass through USFS land, this agency has an interest in its preservation and protection along with other property owners, local governments and civic groups. Through this plan the “intrinsic qualities” - scenic, historical, recreational, cultural and natural characteristics will be maintained, while accommodating increased tourism and future development. The creation of a multi-modal system through the establishment of pedestrian and bikeway systems is an important element of this project.

The CMP process included the collection of extensive data about each byway -- physical characteristics, ownership, recreational amenities, cultural resources, and transportation facilities. Information was analyzed and presented to the public in a series of open houses.

A locally-based Steering Committee was also involved in the development of each plan. Based on the specific character of each byway and the community’s vision for the byway, strategies were recommended. These included the following: Creation of Gateway Features and Landscape Enhancements; Improvements to Existing and/or Creation of New Pull-offs; Signage - Identification, Wayfinding, and Interpretive; Access to and/or Improvements to USFS Recreational Sites and Trailhead Facilities; Methods to Address Roadway Safety Concerns; and the Implementation of a Bikeway System within each Byway with links to the Statewide Bikeway.
