The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI)
Program, through the Atlanta Regional Commission, encourages residential
development, mixed uses and connectivity within and between activity
and town centers, applying smart-growth principles that
will result in a pedestrian-friendly community.
The Jaeger Company helped the City
of Austell evaluate its downtown activity center for redevelopment.
The area contained a variety of land uses, was proximate to a major
thoroughfare, Bankhead Highway, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad,
and included several zoning classifications.
Conceptual plans addressing issues
have been completed for the activity center. A major focus of the
plans were greenway, bikeway, and public transportation options
as connections for residential, recreational, commercial and downtown
business areas within Austell.
The Jaeger Company simultaneously
developed a concept for streetscape improvements in Austells
downtown business district. The area is the communitys historic
town center. The plan complements the historic character of the
downtown and adds aesthetic improvements to this downtown center.
