Streetscape Design

The Jaeger Company assisted the city of Greensboro in the design and implementation of a comprehensive downtown improvement program. The new streetscape complements the historic character of downtown, facilitates easy access to its businesses and institutions, and makes the town center more conducive to pedestrian activities.

The streetscape master plan specified sidewalk improvements, utilizing the historic pattern of multi-colored hexagonal pavers; pedestrian amenities; and the development of off-street parking to replace former on-street spaces. A canopy of native trees, selected for their appropriateness as a historic species as well as their sustainable characteristics, was returned to the town center. TEA funding was used to complete the improvements and acquire and develop new parking.

The firm assisted the city in being selected as a "Better Hometown," a downtown revitalization effort patterned after the state’s successful Main Street program. The firm also assisted in the completion of landscape and site improvements at the courthouse square, a major green space in the town center.
