Pedestrian Corridor Plan

The Jaeger Company (TJC) assisted The University of Georgia in the creation of a Master Plan and Phase I construction documents for D.W. Brooks Drive. The goal was to convert this major north-south vehicular route within south campus into a pedestrian corridor with a traditional quadrangle-type character. The corridor will provide safe access for bicycles and pedestrians. Changes in elevation and provision of service and emergency access presented challenges in the design.

The process included a series of workshops and charrettes which provided opportunities for interaction with representatives from academic and facilities departments, staff and students. The charrettes allowed TJC to determine program, service, and circulation needs and to present design concepts and alternatives.

Historic Conner Hall is at the summit of Brooks Drive. Once part of the agricultural college and known originally as "Ag Hill," it included an amphitheater where Boyd Graduate Research Center is now located. The plan emphasizes a return to the historic landscape character through the design of structural elements as well as the selection of plant materials.
