The
Jaeger Company was retained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation
to provide cultural resource assessment services in an on-call, two-year
contract. The Jaeger Company's responsibilities consisted of conducting
surveys, making identifications, performing analyses, and completing
evaluations of historic architectural and landscape architectural
resources located within the study areas of certain highway projects.
The
completion of a Historic Architecture Survey Report is an important
first step in the Section 106 compliance process. After a preliminary
survey to determine the area of potential effect of the proposed
highway project, historic properties are identified through review
of existing documentation and a historic resources survey. Properties
fifty years or older are evaluated to determine eligibility for
listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Documentation
of these properties, including architectural and historical summaries,
photographs, site maps and floor plans, is gathered for the preparation
of the Historic Architecture Survey Report.
All
work was in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards
and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation.
