Established in 1984, our firm provides design and planning services to a range of clients. We specialize in sites with cultural, historic, and ecological significance.
WLA Studio's founding mission to promote the preservation, conservation, and enhancement of our cultural and natural environments by advancing creative planning and design solutions that draw upon the inherent characteristics of place and increase understanding and awareness.
Areas of Practice
Landscape Architecture
Our firm provides landscape architectural services from concept through construction management. Our design clients are in the public, private and institutional sectors throughout the southeast. WLA Studio specializes in landscapes in historic contexts as well as "green build" projects.
Environmental Design
Many of our projects involve environmentally sensitive sites—and our goal is to preserve and enhance what makes each project and property special. Our staff include designers with specialized backgrounds in “green build” and low impact design for projects of all scales.
historic preservation
Our firm offers historic preservation services including on-call cultural resources contracts with public entities such as the National Park Service and multiple departments of transportation. We also specialize in guiding clients through both tax credit and National Register nomination processes.
Planning
Our firm provides planning services for active and alternative transportation (local and regional), downtown master planning, design guidelines, corridor planning, and Livable City Initiatives (LCI) projects.
historic landscapes
Many of our team members are specialists in evaluating designed landscapes, vernacular properties, historic sites, and ethnographic sites. Many of our staff are preservation planners or landscape architects with specific training in the assessment and treatment of cultural and historic landscapes.
consultation
WLA Studio is available to serve as a consultant to your entity in all stages of project from from concept through construction management. We consult on all scales of projects including: historic garden design, downtown design plans, and regional planning efforts.
